Methodology
Ryan Brewer is an assistant finance professor at Indiana University Purdue University Columbus. Mr. Brewer calculated the value of the top 115 FBS schools in the country.

Brewer's calculations include program revenue, expenses, cash flow, risk assessments and growth projections. It is essentially the same calculation used to value an NFL franchise. An interesting point, the Jacksonville Jaguars sold in late 2011 for $760 million, which is $2 million less than what  the Texas Longhorns are worth.

Conclusion
Maybe Nick Saban is actually worth his $5.5 million salary?
